Here’s an example of what’s coming to South Beach during the Miami International Wine Fair…
The Rhone Valley vs. The Rhone Rangers
In the 700 years since Pope Clement brought Church to Avignon and changed the face of the Rhone Valley forever, its wines and grapes have delighted tasters and connoisseurs around the world.
Today, the Syrah grape has enjoyed enormous influence since moved from her home in northern Rhone, growing successfully in regions ranging from California and Washington to Australia. It has only been about 25 years since a group of wild-eyed grape farmers bound together to promote the bounty of the Rhone right here at home and the growing interest in Grenache has followed their trajectory.
Do our New World wines stand up to the elegance, strength and terroir of their Old World cousins? Has the integrity of the grape (or grapes) held up in her journey around the globe? Were the Rhone Rangers clairvoyant in bringing these grapes to our shores? With some of the best that Rhone and her Rangers have to offer, you can decide for yourself on Sunday, October 27, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. in the Miami Beach Convention Center.

Pancho Campo M.W., Spain’s first and only Master of Wine, will present a unique seminar that has never been seen before in South Florida on Friday, October 24, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. in the Miami Beach Convention Center. “Spain vs. the Rest of The World” will guide us through an unparalleled experience where we’ll taste some of Spain’s most celebrated wines with some of the world’s classic collectables. All wines will first be sampled blindly for attendees to evaluate each wine and pick their favorite. The scores will then be collected and shared with the audience in an interactive setting. This wonderful exercise will be followed by an in-depth presentation about each wine by Mr. Campo.
