How to Make an Orlando Museum Day Work with Children

Museums can be excellent Orlando rest-day experiences, but children do not experience them the way adults do. A successful family museum visit is not measured by how many galleries the group completes.

Choose two or three priorities

Look at the museum map or exhibit list before arrival and identify the areas most likely to interest the children. Everything else is optional.

Ask observation questions

“What is the strangest thing you see?” or “Which object would you take home?” can create better engagement than reading every label aloud.

Use food and outdoor space as breaks

A snack, courtyard or nearby park can reset attention. Several Orlando cultural areas also have public outdoor space that can break up the day.

Leave while the visit is still successful

Stopping after 90 good minutes is better than forcing another two hours and teaching children that museums are exhausting.
